Dreaming of studying in Spain, but putting your plans on hold because of IELTS or PTE?
Perhaps you would prefer to avoid another exam. Or perhaps you have already taken one and did not reach the score you needed. Before you decide that studying abroad is out of reach, there is another option worth exploring.
Selected schools and programs in Spain may accept proof that your previous education was taught in English instead of an IELTS or PTE result. Through MATES Cebu, you can explore these options alongside selected programs with advertised tuition starting at €5,000, subject to the course, intake and confirmed school quotation.
Your previous education could help you take the next step
MOI stands for Medium of Instruction. An MOI certificate is an official document from your previous school or university confirming the language used to teach your program.
If you completed your studies in English, a school that accepts this evidence may consider you without requiring IELTS or PTE. For example, Schiller International University’s admissions guidance allows proof of previous English-taught studies and explains that English verification may be waived for applicants who completed English-medium high school or a bachelor’s degree taught in English.
This can make a meaningful difference if you have been delaying your application because of test preparation, exam costs or the thought of sitting another test.
The option depends on your chosen school and program. An MOI certificate must meet that institution’s requirements, and an interview or additional evidence may still be requested. You will still need the English skills to participate in classes, complete assignments and communicate confidently.
Did not reach your target score before
A disappointing test result does not have to be the end of your study plans.
If your previous education was taught in English, it is worth checking whether an MOI route is available for your intended course. MATES can review your academic background, your previous result if applicable, and the school’s current requirements before recommending your next step.
Be open about any previous tests when completing your assessment. An MOI route is an alternative way to demonstrate your background; it does not automatically override a school’s decision or guarantee admission.

Tuition starting at 5000 euros
Studying in Europe may be more achievable than you first imagined. MATES is promoting selected Spain program options with tuition starting at €5,000.
This starting figure does not apply to every school in the list. Before you commit, MATES will confirm the available course, intake, fee conditions and whether the quoted amount covers a year, a stage of study or the full program.
Your budget should also allow for accommodation, living expenses, insurance, travel, document preparation, school charges and visa-related costs. Request a written breakdown so you know what is included, when payments are due and what refund conditions apply.
Spain 10.10 Promotion (0 Processing Fee)
There is another reason to explore your options now: eligible applicants can take advantage of the Spain 10.10 Promotion (0 Processing Fee).
Promo eligibility and applicable deadlines will be confirmed during your assessment.
How to explore your eligibility
1. Complete the Spain assessment. Share your education, work background, study interests, budget and any previous English-test results.
2. Tell us if you studied in English. If you do not yet have an MOI certificate, indicate whether you can request one from your previous school.
3. Let MATES review your options. We will check suitable programs, the applicable MOI conditions and the costs for your shortlist.
4. Review your portal update. Your assessment feedback will explain the next steps and any additional information needed.
For an MOI request, ask your school’s registrar for an official certificate identifying you and your completed program and confirming that English was the language of instruction. MATES can help you check whether the receiving school needs particular wording or supporting documents.
An assessment identifies possible options; the school makes the admission decision, and the relevant authorities make the visa decision. Acceptance of an MOI certificate for admission does not itself guarantee a visa.
